I travel to some rough spots in the world and needed a large bag that would be easy to find in small, crowded airports and was durable.

Comments about Lightweight Extended Trip Packing Case:

I just got this suitcase over the holidays and selected this suitcase as I needed one that met certain criteria:

        - lightweight
        - stylish
        - durable
        - built-in suiter that was usable
        - four wheeler

The new lightweight Alpha hit nearly all of this criteria. I started by looking at the Arrive (love the look!) and the Bedford, but in weighing the Bedford it came in at 20 lbs empty, vs. 13 lbs for this lightweight Alpha model. Those 7 lbs could be the difference between remaining under the weight limit or paying a crazy fee. I also looked at the Tegra Lite since it weighed in at 10 lbs, but the lack of external pockets and the lack of any protection on the outside would mean that the polycarbonate finish would look miserable after just one trip.

It's certainly stylish and durable as well, but after just one trip the 'bumper guards' got scuffed, so I'll have to see how it looks after another 5 years of use.

The four wheels are fabulous. There I was wheeling two four-wheeled suitcases (one in each hand) by myself - a task that would certainly not be very easy if it wasn't for being able to roll both upright. It really is handy. I highly recommend four wheels for checked baggage (but not for carry-on as it robs too much room that could go towards the interior storage instead).

The only real downside - and this was a large trade-off - was that the suiter still requires a tri-fold to fit properly.

The reason for the 4-star was due to the exterior scuff marks showing up after just one trip and the lack of a suiter that requires only one fold. To make this a perfect five-star suitcase, it would utilize the Alpha Wheeled Expandable Extended Trip suiter, which requires only one fold. But... that is only a two-wheeler.

Finally - more of a heads-up than anything else - this suitcase is not expandable. Not a deal-breaker for me, but I know others definitely look for this in their suitcases.
